Art Theft: Most Famous Cases in History

Art Theft: Most Famous Cases in History

Word Count:
669

Summary:
Review of the most famous cases of art thefts in history including the stealing of the Mona Lisa and The Scream.

Keywords:
art theft,art thefts,art fakers,art,Mona Lisa,Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum,art thieves,Edvard Munch,The Scream,arts,painting,paintings,drawing

Article Body:
Art theft is an ancient and complicated crime. When you look at the some of the most famous cases of art thefts in history, you see thoroughly planned operations that involve art dealers, art fakers, mobsters, ransoms, and millions of dollars. Here you can read about some of the most famous cases of art theft in the history.

The First Theft:
The first documented case of art theft was in 1473, when two panels of altarpiece of the Last Judgment by the Dutch painter Hans Memling were stolen. While the triptych was being transported by ship from the Netherlands to Florence, the ship was attacked by pirates who took it to the Gdansk cathedral in Poland. Nowadays, the piece is shown at the National Museum in Gdansk where it was recently moved from the Basilica of the Assumption.

The Most Famous Theft:
The most famous story of art theft involves one of the most famous paintings in the world and one of the most famous artists in history as a suspect. In the night of August 21, 1911, the Mona Lisa was stolen out of the Louver. Soon after, Pablo Picasso was arrested and questioned by the police, but was released quickly.

It took about two years until the mystery was solved by the Parisian police. It turned out that the 30×21 inch painting was taken by one of the museum employees by the name of Vincenzo Peruggia, who simply carried it hidden under his coat. Nevertheless, Peruggia did not work alone. The crime was carefully conducted by a notorious con man, Eduardo de Valfierno, who was sent by an art faker who intended to make copies and sell them as if they were the original painting.

While Yves Chaudron, the art faker, was busy creating copies for the famous masterpiece, Mona Lisa was still hidden at Peruggias apartment. After two years in which Peruggia did not hear from Chaudron, he tried to make the best out of his stolen good. Eventually, Peruggia was caught by the police while trying to sell the painting to an art dealer from Florence, Italy. The Mona Lisa was returned to the Louver in 1913.

The Biggest Theft in the USA:
The biggest art theft in United States took place at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. On the night of March 18, 1990, a group of thieves wearing police uniforms broke into the museum and took thirteen paintings whose collective value was estimated at around 300 million dollars. The thieves took two paintings and one print by Rembrandt, and works of Vermeer, Manet, Degas, Govaert Flinck, as well as a French and a Chinese artifact.

As of yet, none of the paintings have been found and the case is still unsolved. According to recent rumors, the FBI are investigating the possibility that the Boston Mob along with French art dealers are connected to the crime.

The Scream:
The painting by Edvard Munchs, The Scream, is probably the most sought after painting by art thieves in history. It has been stolen twice and was only recently recovered. In 1994, during the Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway, The Scream was stolen from an Oslo gallery by two thieves who broke through an open window, set off the alarm and left a note saying: thanks for the poor security.

Three months later, the holders of the painting approached the Norwegian Government with an offer: 1 million dollars ransom for Edvard Munchs The Scream. The Government turned down the offer, but the Norwegian police collaborated with the British Police and the Getty Museum to organize a sting operation that brought back the painting to where it belongs.

Ten years later, The Scream was stolen again from the Munch Museum. This time, the robbers used a gun and took another of Munchs painting with them. While Museum officials waiting for the thieves to request ransom money, rumors claimed that both paintings were burned to conceal evidence. Eventually, the Norwegian police discovered the two paintings on August 31, 2006 but the facts on how they were recovered are not known yet.

Deliver An Elevator Speech That Grabs Attention and Has Them Begging For More!

Deliver An Elevator Speech That Grabs Attention and Has Them Begging For More!

Word Count:
480

Summary:
When someone asks you what you do, do you stammer and stutter, then spurt out a label or winded explanation that meets you with a glazed-over look? Discover how a powerful elevator speech can generate energetic dialogues that will increase your recognition and attract more clients.

Keywords:
home-based,home,business,entrepreneur,work from home,work at home,entrepreneurship,job,based,SOHO

Article Body:
An elevator speech is a short verbal snippet that clearly and memorably introduces you.  It highlights your uniqueness and focuses on the benefits you provide.

Imagine ... you step onto an elevator and there is a lone occupant waiting to travel with you to another floor.

You are together for less than a minute, but long enough to make polite conversation.

What you don't know is this person is your ideal client. She has a problem you can solve.

She cuts through the awkward silence and says, "I see you're attending the networking event as well.  What do you do?"

Here it is!  Your chance to make an impression and secure a new client.

After a short stammer, you answer with, "I'm a coach and a copywriter. I hold a Masters in Business Administration and have been running my own home-based business for ten years."

With only a few seconds left, the elevator doors open.  She politely responds with a smile, then steps off the elevator, gone ... forever.

After you finish banging your head against the button panel, you realize you not only blew it, but you now have an indentation of the twenty-first floor button on your forehead.

What if instead you had answered with:

"I help women entrepreneurs get more clients than they know what to do with and triple their profits in six months."

If she were your target client, do you think the second response would have sparked her interest and kept her on that elevator a little bit longer?

We all ask ourselves, "What's in it for me?" when engaged in any type of communication, whether written or spoken.

You want to take something of value from a conversation, learn something new, create a certain feeling, or receive information that will help you solve a problem or meet a need.

If you spend the first 30 seconds labeling yourself and listing your credentials, or going into a technical spiel of your product or service, you will be met with nothing more than a big fat yawn, a glazed-over look or even worse, "Excuse me, I have to make a call" and a quick exit.

Take the time to develop a benefit-rich, passionate elevator speech that will engage your listeners to want to hear more.

Write down a list of benefits your clients/customers receive from working with you or buying from you, and use those words and phrases in your benefit statement.

There's no need to label yourself. Labels don't provide the benefits the listener is looking for.

Once you have your elevator speech developed, practice it over and over until it's as natural as stating your name.  You'll be able to use it at networking events, in telephone conversation, when leaving voice mail messages, in any type of written communication, and yes, especially in the elevator!

Are Air Purifiers the Solution to Improving Indoor Air Quality?

Are Air Purifiers the Solution to Improving Indoor Air Quality?

Word Count:
535

Summary:
Although we can't always control our outdoor or work environments, we can take steps to control the air quality of our homes.

Keywords:
air purifiers, furnace filters, allergy relief products, air oasis, austin air, airfree, Hyla vacuum

Article Body:
Possibly due to the increased pollutants in the air we breathe, greater numbers of people are suffering from environmental sensitivities. Second hand smoke, dust, pollens, and molds cause millions of people to seek allergy relief products. Although we can't always control our outdoor or work environments, we can take steps to control the air quality of our homes. Furnace filters and vacuum cleaners can help indoor air pollution, but many people turn to air purifiers to make the air in their homes easier to breathe.

Types of Air Purifiers

There are many different types of air purifiers, each designed to address a specific type of problem:

Dust Removal: Unless you keep your home spic and span and run your heating and air conditioning system 24 hours a day, seven days a week, you most likely have a build up of dust. Many people are allergic to dust, and turn to HEPA machines to filter out dust. HEPA machines usually only take care of the dust in the room where they're located, so they're not a good solution to keeping your whole house dust-free. Instead, it's best to keep your HVAC running 24/7 and invest in good furnace filters. There are several types of furnace filters, such as washable electrostatic furnace filters, that will filter out over 90 percent of dust particles over one micron in size.

Mold Removal: If you have a problem with surface mold, it's best to consult with a professional contractor. But many people seek allergy relief products due to allergic reactions to airborne mold. Air purifiers that remove airborne mold usually raise ozone levels (like the Airfree and Air Oasis lines of products), and in the process kill odors, chemical particulates and bacteria.

Second Hand Smoke Removal: Smoke not only negatively impacts health and air quality, but it also seeps into fabrics and hard surfaces. Liquid air purifiers (such as the Air Oasis Xtreme) are the best and most effective way to remove second hand smoke.

Virus Protection: Many people buy HEPA machines that are purported to kill viruses using UV lamps. Unfortunately, small UV lamps just don't work; you need a lamp that will create at least 24,000 microwatts of UVGI.

Total Solution?

Are there any air purifiers that are complete and total allergy relief products? Unfortunately, no. To comprehensively address indoor air quality issues, you need to implement a number of approaches. First, because carpeting collects dust and releases gas, your home should have hardwood floors. Second, you should run your HVAC system 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and use a washable electrostatic furnace filter. An ozone generator air purifier near the return air duct will help tremendously. Third, you should have an induct air sanitizer to cleanse viruses, molds, and bacteria. Fourth, you should vacuum and clean your floors with a Hyla vacuum water filtration, wet cleaning, and air purification system. Fifth, you should use air purifiers in your home's bedrooms (such as Airfree or Austin Air purifiers). Sixth, you should spray surfaces with TiO2 PCO liquid, which will address gasses, viruses, and molds.

Even considering today's air quality, respiratory illnesses aren't inevitable. By improving your home air quality through cleaning and air purifiers, you are certain to breathe easier.

Article Body:
We all want a piece of the pie. Why not, it's large enough to spare a chunk to you right? There's nothing wrong with wanting more than just a piece, You're an entrepreneur, you want a LARGE piece.

I want to show you how, by simply adding a few testimonials here and there , you can dramatically increase your chances of making more sales online and offline.

We all want to believe that you have the best "gidget & widget" out there. We want to believe it because you said so. But, the harsh reality is, is that we simply can't just take your word for it.

For instance, just for an example, let's use "Company Logo Design". Here is the difference between facts tell and stories sell.

Ex #1 (Facts Only)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Company Logo Design - You will get

- 5 concepts to choose from
- Unlimited Revisions to 1 concept
- CD Included (All images print ready)
- Satisfaction Guaranteed!

- All of this for $199.00 CLICK HERE
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sounds like a good service for the buck no? Not bad. Now let's see the power of adding a story to these facts.

Ex #2 (Story + Facts)

Do you see the difference in the two???? In the example #1, I added all the features plus the price. In the 2nd example, I DIDN'T even add the price. Even without the price, example #2 will bring in more sales than the example #1 ever will.

It's all about "Fear Of Loss".

Fear of loss is a powerful tool to use. Don't tell people what they need. Have them fear the fact that if they don't have it, nothing will work out for them. A good industry to follow is in "Make-up" companies & Beauty Products. This industry has used "fear of loss" to it's fullest. They consistently insert into young female minds that, if they don't use their products, they will never be as beautiful as they hope to be.

Like I mentioned before, we all want to believe that you have the best product out there, by simply inserting a testimonial, this will ultimately help your visitors to further believe that you do.

When promoting online, here's another given you should always consider:

People are simply sitting at a computer desk browsing through the internet. There's no personal touch to searching for services, in your visitors mind, it's only duty should be strictly informational. Testimonials and utilizing that fear of loss helps you to create a sub-conscious emotion that triggers an attachment to your companies services. If you've accomplished this correctly, your visitor could go looking at another company for the same services but, they will likely have problems concentrating on anything else.

Around 8/10 people go with a company from a gut feeling, not facts. This is a very high number to loose by simply failing to appeal to feelings instead of just facts.

I'll put it to you another way. When you look at a web design company. They may have the best price out there but, your main concern is to view their work. To see their portfolio in action. Adding testimonials to each web site in their portfolio would be a powerful venture for any web design company. Why do we always want to see their work? Fear of loss.

What would you feel like if you saw a portfolio that was full of sensory rich web sites that not only looked great but also functioned perfectly? Would you feel excited to talk to these people at that affordable price? I know I would. On the other hand, yeah the price is right but the quality is poor. Most of us will simply move onto the next web design company.

The more you can grab some ones attention and keep them interested online, the more they will learn to like you, trust you, and call you for your services, no matter the price.

In Conclusion:
Spice up your piece of the pie by spicing up some stories and grabbing peoples attention through fear of loss & success stories.

Hope this article helps you out!

With the internet growing on a daily basis, people of all ages are now joining. In fact, many of them are making more money off of it than they did at most of their previous jobs. The difficult part of making money on the internet or with any home based business is finding the right job for you. Taking your time and not jumping into one too quickly can help to alleviate any wasted time and effort on your part and keep you from having to job hop when you realize that that is not the job that you are comfortable with. Take your time; do the research and find a job that you are interested in and can be excited about.

When you accept a new job, it is important to find someone that can train you. The new business may have instructors that can help to teach you what you need to do to be successful in the business, or they may have online tutorials to assist you. If you choose to work in a multi-level marketing business, you may be able to find someone in the chain above you that will help to teach you and work with you on your first couple of customer interactions. In most cases this individual may be referred to as a sponsor. The sponsor almost always, will help you get started, because often, your success helps add to their success as well. These types of people will be able to answer your questions and warn you of any possible dangers that you may encounter while working in this line of business.

Consider your personal schedule when looking into joining a new company. Will they expect you to be able to donate more of your time than you are capable of? It is important to think about a job that fits well into your schedule. Having a job that requires you to give more of your time than you can, can make you feel rushed and strained to get everything done on time. Find one that has a flexible enough schedule that it doesn't interfere with your already busy schedule.

When looking for a job, do not join one that says you will make a lot of money with minimal effort or the classic "get rich" fast. These types of jobs are often scams and you will be taken advantage of and have little or no support at all. With any type of job that you work, you will find that the more work that you do and the more effort that you put forth, the more of a return you will have. You will find more clients and more clients usually lead to more income.

Find a job that suits your personality too. Do not attempt to sell a product that you personally do not find appealing or useful. Give your new job as much attention as you can and enjoy your new work. Having fun with a job can make a difference when you are looking for that perfect job to sustain your lifestyle and to branch out on your own.

Article Body:
I am one of many people who have realised the many benefits that writing articles can bring. Article marketing is now widely recognised as an excellent way of promoting a website, however there are many more opportunities out there to make money for the budding writer.
I just happened to stumble across the idea of writing articles around eight months ago when I was discussing different forms of website promotion with a friend of mine. I was looking at ways in which I could attract more visitors to my own sites and he advised me to commence writing articles.
The advice was sound and I have not looked back since. Writing articles is a superb way of gaining extra one-way backward links to your site and the readers of each article are also potential visitors.
I attempt to write around seven articles per week which is not easy at times but is something I am aware will help my sites.
In each article I try to give advice and attempt to make them enjoyable for any potential reader.
There are other ways that people like myself, who enjoy to write can make money from their skills.
Other people are also aware of the benefits of article marketing but just do not have the time to write themselves. These people are always on the lookout for somebody to help them out, somebody who will write and submit an article for them. There are a number of websites where each writer can notify people of their services and where other people can post a project that they would like to be completed.
Other areas where people can earn additional cash from their skills is via writing freelance for newspapers and magazines. If your skills are of a higher enough quality and what you write is of interest to a wide audience, there is no reason why you could not earn money in this way.
Writing has never been more in demand and now is the time for people who feel that they have the gift to make the most out of this opportunity. There is a lot of rubbish being written on the web at the moment and quality will always stand out.
Many people might argue that they are not well enough educated to be accepted as a writer in certain quarters. This may well be correct for some people out there, however if you do not try you will never know. Content is king as they say and if your content is good enough and of interest, why would people have an issue with your lack of examinations etc.
Ensure that your content is easy to read and that all of the words are spelt correct. The world is your oyster, go for it.

With that in mind, there are several very important things that you need to consider when choosing antivirus software:

1) How often/fast are the virus definitions updated. You want the answer to be "As soon as a new threat is found".

2) Are the virus definitions updated automatically by the software? You want the answer to be "YES".

3) Can you configure the software to check for updates every time you go online? You want the answer to be "YES".

There are a few major players in the field that you should know about in order to make an informed decision about which antivirus software solution to buy and use. There are Norton Antivirus, Trend Micro's PC-cillin, and McAfee Antivirus. Sophos and Grisoft's AVG are also very god choices. All of the top antivirus solutions will provide each of the eight points above (and more).

There are quite a few smaller players on the market as well. In many cases they are quite good. However, most of the smaller players in this market don't have the resources (yet) to keep up with constantly changing virus threats. For now I would recommend staying away from them. Not because they are poor products, but simply because they aren't able to consistently provide each of the eight requirements above.

The first few days after a new virus appears are often when it can do the most damage. The sooner you get an update the better. The big 3 will provide automatic updates to new threats usually within days of a new virus being found. Sophos and AVG are similar. Smaller players may take several days to provide updates, which are often not automatic.

This should be enough basic information to help you on your way to choosing a good antivirus software. If you'd like to learn more first, there is plenty to read at http://www.antivirus-report.com/antivirus-software.html

John Reese, the mastermind responsible for making an astounding $1 million in one day using an ingenious Internet Marketing approach, is finally revealing some of his secret tips and techniques to the rest of us. Now, the Industry's privileged to have new and completely original ideas at their disposal – ideas that have never been taught before at seminars, in ebooks, how-to courses or consulting sessions.

In development since early 2005, Reese formulated his special print publication exposing many of the successful techniques he used to earn $1 million in just one day. He also included new concepts still in the testing and theoretical stages. In the beginning, Reese only allowed a small, select group of people to access his report, appropriately named the Reese Report. This small group acted as participants in a marketing study. But, soon, word and demand spread quickly across the industry, as one could imagine.

Included in his rare report are step-by-step lessons on how to build your own virtual real estate empire using a number of small content-rich websites. He also lets readers in on ways to pull traffic in and shares incredibly clever and lucrative Google AdWord tactics that take full advantage of visitor traffic. It's the same AdSense model John used himself to earn more than $72,000 in a single month.

Also in the Reese Report, John offers his professional advice on ways to grow any online business, from AdSense to affiliate programs and infoproduct websites, automatically without putting hours of work into administration or paying a penny in advertising. Then he gives an revealing look at ways you can get a sneak peek into the testing results for other sites and use this valuable information to improve your own.

The Reese Report includes 20 pages crammed with information any Internet Marketer or to-be web entrepreneur needs to know to get started. It also discloses unknown strategies even the long-time Internet Marketing can use to drive stronger profits. Add Value To Your Business Offering And Enhance Profits

Add Value To Your Business Offering And Enhance Profits

Summary:
A classic mistake a lot of new businesses make is to solely compete on price. By adding extra features to your offering it is often possible to charge higher prices.

Let's say for example you are a small soft drinks manufacturer. What could you add that would allow you to charge higher prices? One idea might be to add some vitamins to your mixture or if it's fruit juice – no added sugar. Another idea might be to use premium or novelty packaging.

Let's say for example you are a small soft drinks manufacturer. What could you add that would allow you to charge higher prices? One idea might be to add some vitamins to your mixture or if it's fruit juice – no added sugar. Another idea might be to use premium or novelty packaging.

Have you seen the lolly in a tube which children can open and shut? It is based on the lipstick concept which allows the children to have exactly the right amount protruding for maximum taste. A normal lolly might retail at a few cents whilst this one retails at around a dollar! Same product plus novel packaging equals much higher profit.

Another idea that aroused my interest was when a well known toothpaste manufacturer managed to increase the sales of their product by just increasing the size of the hole! They realised that their customers used to spread a line of toothpaste and when they increased the size of the aperture people carried on spreading the same length not realising that they were using more toothpaste!

Recently have you noticed that cans of beer & juice have wider apertures to allow us to gulp our drink quicker? You can now drink just as easily from a can as you would from a glass. Not all manufacturers have followed this example yet!

Have a look on the Internet and you will find that the best websites offer a lot of information for free. Some of them have a whole host of articles telling you how to do their job! Off course what they are really counting on is the fact that even if they show you how to do it you might not have the time or the inclination to do it! By explaining the processes involved it serves to show their expertise on the issue and means that you are more likely to become a customer.

By adding extra ingredients, improving packaging, offering free information and looking at how easy your product is to use can make all the difference between charging a cut throat price and making a little extra profit.

We have seen in the previous article "It is a Dog Eat Dog Nonprofit World" that the romantic and idealized notion that many of us carry around that the nonprofit world is a better place to be, may be flawed. Instead of cooperation, we encounter competition; instead of collaboration we encounter self-will; and instead of dedication to mission, we find adoption of cut-throat business practices.

There are, however, many ways that a nonprofit can thrive in this environment. It means acknowledging that the resources of philanthropy are a finite amount of money. It entails a commitment to recognize opportunities and develop strategies for turning them into successful projects.

Here is a checklist of stratagems to consider.

1. Fundraise twelve months a year, not just in November and December.

2. Sponsor fundraisers that can be repeated year after year, and which people look forward to.

3. Disarm your competition by joining with them in joint ventures where you all benefit by creating a better overall charitable climate.

4. Start using some proven techniques from the commercial sector to attract and retain talented personnel.

5. Become actively involved in your professional associations, whether they are fundraising associations, or "trade" associations.

6. Be the leader in initiating a collaborative meeting of the nonprofits in your market area. Host the first meeting at your offices, and get commitments from the attendees to attend regular conferences in the future. Better the devil you know.

7. Join fundraising programs that give your organization a unique offering, and provide a needed service to your constituency.

8. Try thinking more as if you were in the commercial sector competing for people, money, sales, recognition, and providing superior customer service.

9. Upgrade your office equipment to provide the efficiencies that will allow you to save money by making everybody's job easier.

10. Redo your website to reflect your comfort with technology.

11. Hold regular meetings with your community to get their observations about how you are doing, and their suggestions about what other things you could do.

12. Use technology to network. Join online social networks like LinkedIn and Care2.

13. Play fair with your competition, and be direct with them when you think they have not played fair with you.

14. Position your organization to develop and promote your brand.

15. Develop a short term and a long term strategic plan that includes a chapter on how you are going to survive in this new highly competitive environment for nonprofits.

16. Consider partnering with companies in the commercial sector for your mutual benefit.

17. Re-evaluate how you look at activities which might be considered unrelated to your specific mission.

18. Update your accounting program to allow you to monitor projects, programs, employees, and growth.

19. Associate your organization with good outside talent, including accounting and legal.

20. Be alert to situations which would warrant the issuing of a public service announcement for free inclusion in newspapers, magazines, radio stations, and TV.

21. Become known as a good citizen by sponsoring open meetings, adopting a section of road, or providing free services in the schools.

According to the Urban Institute, the ranks of registered nonprofits have swelled from 1.2 million to 1.4 million, up 17 percent in the last five years. Some of those new nonprofits have your organization in their sites. Additionally, with the diminution of funding from the Federal Government, nonprofits have to scramble just to stay even. Some may do so at your expense. That makes it urgent that you look at yourself as existing in a competitive world, and that you make plans to address it.

It is becoming more common but the big question I get when talking to people is "Why use a blog?".

Off the top of my head I can think of 5 major reasons.

A blog is:

• Easy to update
• Easy to get started
• Liked by the search engines
• Creating feeds automatically
• Allows people to interact with you

Before I start let me take just a minute to define the term blog. The following is quoted from Dr. Mani one of the earliest marketers to embrace blogs.

"A blog is short for "web log" a sort of online personal diary where "anyone" can reveal his/her innermost thoughts, feelings, desires, dreams, ambitions, fears, hopes … you get the meaning.

Yes, it's a website. With one small difference. It lists posts ordered by date in a personal journal format, and is easier to create than a website – just involves typing into a form and pushing the PUBLISH button"

The ease of push button publishing of most blog platforms make them one of the easiest web sites to update. On most platforms you don't need to know HTML though it does help. If you can create a word document you can update a blog.

They are extremely easy to get started. Blogger and Word Press both can be started without much more than creating an account and clicking a few choices. Now there are huge advantages to hosting your blog on your own domain. But even there if you have cpanel hosting with Fantastico it is an almost fill in the blank process to get started. No great technical skills needed.

Search engines like blogs. They are usually updated regularly because it is easy. Compare the type and push a button to update of the average blog platform to creating an HTML page uploading it either through the cpanel or FTP. Much easier so it happens much more often. Blogs tend to have fresher content.

The search engines also like the RSS feeds that are created. Properly used feeds can allow you to generate links from other authoritative sites such as Technorati, Feedburner and others. These high PR sites create backlinks to your site which will make the search engines rate you higher. People can easily subscribe to your feed and know when you have updated your site through various RSS readers.

Finally, the biggest advantage is that blogs can be interactive. Most blog platforms allow your reader to comment on what you have written.

This does two very good things for you. You get additional updated content (which the search engines like) and you get feedback on what you have written.  Which are you more likely to do? Click a comment link and leave your input on a blog or try and find a way to contact the average webmaster. Even if you do it is usually through a form or email that does not increase the content of the site.

A blog definitely gets my vote. What about you?
